DEPARTURE FROM LAWNMARKET
Lawnmarket is one of the oldest streets in Edinburgh. Here, the witch hunt was very common in Scotland in the Middle Ages. We will tell you what happened to these people and, in particular, the peculiar history of one of them.
Shortly after departure, we will descend to the oldest lake in Edinburgh. Despite the mystery around it, few people know of its existence.
It originally was the sewer of the city and was also the place chosen to perform witchcraft tests. You will discover the eccentricities of the Scottish elite and their darkest superstitions. Although it has been a long time since then, there are some curses that still remain.
FROM THE CASTLE TO GRASSMARKET
On the way to the Grassmarket, we will drive pass the Saint Cuthbert Cemetery and enjoy the incredible views and stories of one of the most enchanted castles in Edinburgh.
Further ahead you will find the square whose pubs still remember the terrible stories about the hundreds of people unjustly executed. It was also in one of these pubs where William Hare and William Burke looked for their future victims. Many compare them with the Jack the Ripper himself. What were they really doing?
According to the University of Edinburgh, the cemetery of Greyfriars is one of the graveyards with the highest paranormal activity in the world. In fact, this university has gathered a team of parapsychology to try to explain some of the strange events that still occur to locals and tourists. It will be time to make a stop and walk in this mysterious place.
NORTH BRIDGE AND NEW CALTON
You will cross the cursed North Bridge bridge. From there you will see the sights of the most enchanted city in Europe and we will tell you some strange stories like the child who can still be heard playing his bagpipe.
Soon after, we drive past the New Calton Cemetery. In Edinburgh, one of the most curious professions in all history was created. They were called “The resurrectonists.” When two Irish people heard this they came up with an idea to get rich without having to wait for people to die. What did they really do?
THE DARK SIDE OF HOLYROOD PARK
In this park, not so long ago, a group of children who were playing found one of the greatest mysteries of the city. Perhaps, witchcraft in Edinburgh was not just a practice of the Middle Ages.
It went from being the street where the most influential nobles lived to become the most dangerous street in the whole city. It was by then, when the legend of the underground city was born. Illegal activities and stories that coined one of the darkest places in Edinburgh.
BACK TO LAWNMARKET
To finish this tour, we will pass through one of the most beautiful streets of Edinburgh. However, remember that this place is no exception for many mysterious stories.
